OSHA Closed the case August 2013 with $7000 Fine: Violation Report

The cause of Abdal L. Audeh’s death was massive blunt impact injuries to the chest, Stark County Coroner Dr. P. S. Murthy ruled Tuesday.Audeh, 28, of Saint Clair Avenue SW, New Philadelphia, was killed Monday at an oil-rig site at 1165 Brussel Road in Washington Township, which is operated by R.E. Gas Development, a subsidiary of Rex Energy Corp.

Audeh and Alex R. Cox of Cadiz were working on the rig around 4 p.m. Monday when Cox told Carroll County Sheriff Dale Williams they had forgotten to hook up a safety line, which is used to keep drilling equipment from swinging around the platform and striking workers. Audeh was struck by the equipment and transported to Aultman Hospital in Canton, where he was pronounced dead at 5:30 p.m. Cox suffered a head injury for which he was treated at Mercy Medical Center, also in Canton, and released Monday.

Both men worked for Sidewinder Drilling, based in Houston.
